"Double Veil" Pop-Up Workshop w/ Petite Jamila of Bellydance Superstars!! DATE: Monday October 20th TIME: 7 - 8:30PM EST LOCATION: Online Zoom Only NEED: 2 Veils (if you want to get specific) - 2 semi circle veils, 7mm silk (a heavier silk). rayon/poly /chiffon blend will also work. Tissue lamè is a great affordable starter veil option. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this course, you will learn every “trick” Petite Jamilla uses when she performs Double Veil herself! You will learn to utilize the double veils as both a single veil in certain moments, and as separated 2 veils at other moments. She will discuss and touch on tips for spinning her style (inspired by mevevli Sufism) and will offer less spinning options if that’s problematic. This class is heavy on upper arm work - not recommended if you have shoulder issues. Petite Jamila Bio: Petite Jamilla began belly dancing as a child with her folkloric based mama Jamilla Rasa. PJ spent her childhood in the California belly dance scene performing at Cairo Carnival and even competing as the first children’s group in the Belly Dancer of the Year Pageant. When they moved to the south, PJ began teaching at UAB continuing education classes and performing at hafla’s and shows across the southeast while taking ever seminar she could sign herself up for. By 19 years old she had 2 instructional DVDs in the market, danced in a local restaurant, taught classes and workshop and was already featured in Zaghareet! Magazine. She joined the prestigious Bellydance Superstars from 2003-2013 both performing and teaching in over 40 different countries - performing in sold out auditoriums for thousands. Since touring days, she continues to pursue her love for belly dance, Polynesian dance and bagpipes all while juggling life as a married stay at home mom with 4 beautiful kids.
